ZAMRI BABA LOCKS SIGHT ON PODIUM
9 July 2010

It was a great outing for Md Zamri Baba as he successfully set the pace for CP130 timed practice session here at the Sultan Mizan Gong Badak Stadium, Kuala Terengganu today.

The 27 years old rider clocked his fastest lap at 42.495s in lap 12 followed by Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman (PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha Raceline) with 42.522s and Elly Idzlianizar Ilias (Shell Advance Yamaha Maju) 42.549s.

Satisfied with his position on the timesheet Zamri commented, "I'm glad everything went well today. The weather was good and my Yamaha was in excellent condition. However, it was a little bit too hot so most riders refrained themselves from going all out in fear that the heat might damage the engines. Hopefully the weather will be cooler tomorrow," said the PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha AHM rider.

Zamri went on to add about his targets for the race and said,  "I intend to win my first chequered flag here in Terengganu and make up for the loss in Batu Kawan (Round 3). It's not going to be an easy task because the competition is very high now with everybody picking up the pace and the time is very close too. Nevertheless, it is essential to have a fast bike because there is very few opportunities to overtake at turns. The only opening is on straights."

Meanwhile, Motul Yamaha YY Pang riders took CP115 timed practice by storm by securing top three fastest positions.  Former Expert rider, Md Adli Salihin was the fastest as he clocked in with a remarkable 43.070s followed by Zaidy Md Zaifaizal with 43.395s and Md Rozaiman Md Said 43.420s.

According to Adli, he was able to perform here in Terengganu as this is his favourite track and the team mechanics had installed new parts on the team's Yamaha. "This time around we're using a new exhausts and this contributed to our success today. It gave us more power on the track and we are grateful for the results. Hopefully we can repeat this for the final race because it had always been our target," said Adli who participated in the Expert category last year," said Adli.

When asked who he predicts will be a tough competitor tomorrow Adli said, "Based on the results I would say Md Iskandar Raduan (PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha Raceline), Ahmad Abd Kadir (Faito Yamaha Boon Kui), Md Ramdan Md Rosli (PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha AHM) and my teammates will be my strongest contenders. Their time is not that far apart from me and they are all well equipped in terms of bike setup, fitness and mental strength so I will have to be very careful."

Moving on, with 44.435s,, Md Adib Rosley (Motul Yamaha YY Pang)  was the fastest rider in the Wira category closely pursued by Md Fitri Ashraf Razali (Caviaga Mpdenas Cilik Racing) with 44.458s and Md Syawalludin Md Zaki (Modenas Forty One Racing) with 44.479s.

The 16 years old rider who completed last season second place behind teammate and Wira epg Champion, Md Azhar Abd Jalil was satisfied with the results saying it adds on to his confidence to bag a hat-trick for the race.

"The track was quite technical and some parts places were bumpy, especially at turn 6 and this slowed me down a bit. Fortunately everything went well and the result is a clear indication I stand a chance to pull a hat-trick for the finals tomorrow. Nevertheless, Azhar and I have already set up a race strategy and hopefully everything follows through," said Adib.

As for the one make races, fastest for the Yamaha 135LC was Tengku Amirul Haffiruddin who clocked in with 25.289s followed by Md Izzat Zaidi Salehan with 46.035s. Third fastest was Md Anas Md Fithri with 46.300s.

Fastest for the Honda icon Challenge was Fakhrusy Syakirin Rostan with 48.082s followed by Md Hafizul Hamid with 48.794s and Has Fauzan Hassan 49.329s.

Not only was Hafizul the fastest for the Honda one-make race, he was also the fastest in the Privateer category to which he timed an impressive 46.075s on a Yamaha. Second came in Md Alib Abdul with 46.451s and Elfy Rizal Zainol with 46.537s.
