NORIZMAN HOPING FOR A HAT-TRICK
21 July 2011

Norizman Ismail scored a back-to-back victory in Putrajaya and Teluk Intan is hoping to chalk up his third win in the coming Round 6 of the PETRONAS AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship that will take place at Stadium Darul Aman, Alor Setar this weekend.

The 2005 Expert Champion has not score a hat-trick since he started his racing career in 2003. His closest attempt was last season whereby he won both the Batu Kawan (Round 3) and Sepang North (Round 4) races but did not managed to keep up his perfect outing in Kuala Terengganu (Round 5) whereby he only managed to finish the race in seventh placing.

This time around, the Harian Metro TEQ SCK Honda Racing rider one to give it another try to win three races consecutively not only to create his own personal record but also for his team. “So far in the Expert/CP130, only two riders had done it and they are none other than, Ahmad Fazli Sham who score the hat-trick in 2008 when he represented Shell Advance Yamaha Maju Motor and PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha Raceline’s Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah did it in 2010. I hope to be the first Honda rider to create the hat-trick record and to have my name written in the Cub Prix book of record,” said the 26-year old rider.

Asking him who has the potential to spoil his plan, he said, “Alor Setar winners namely Fazli, Ahmad Fuad Baharudin, Hafizh and also Mohd Ramdan Mohd Rosli. Besides that, there is no team order in our team and I have to keep an eye on my teammates, Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman and Mohd Affendi Rosli as well.”

After five rounds of the Championship, Norizman is currently leading the overall standings with 79 points. His closest rival is 2007 and 2008 Champion, Fazli of Pennzoil Fastrac Racing who has 52 points. Meanwhile, Affendi is in third placing with 51 points and Azlan is eighth with 41 points.

Norizman went on to add, “My desire to score hat-trick is not only to set another milestone in my racing career but I want to collect as many points as possible to extend my overall lead. Now I have 27-point ahead of Fazli and I want to build a bigger gap.”

“No doubt, winning the race in Alor Setar is my ultimate goal but I will opt for a save game. I can’t afford to make any mistakes and not to collect points,” said Norizman who finished second overall last season.
