PROFILE: FAKHRUSY ANTICIPATES SEPANG LEG
7 November 2011

Fakhrusy Syakirin Rostam wants to convert his recent promising form into another positive result at the penultimate leg of the PETRONAS AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship that will be held at Sepang International Circuit (South Track) on November 12 and 13.

15-year-old Fakhrusy who graduated from the Honda icon Challenge last year participated in the Wira category this season as a privateer. He was with Yamaha CKJ Sukimi for a few rounds as a replacement rider but from last round onwards, he joined the AAP Mazoil Faito Racing team.

The Form 3 student of Sekolah Menengah Psir Gudang sprang up a surprise by dominating the entire weekend in Malacca (Round 8) and went on to win the wet race brushing aside the more experience riders namely currently championship leader, Zulsyafiz Rosli (MOS Malaysia Racing) and defending Champion, Mohd Adib Rosley of Motul Yamaha YY Pang Racing.

He secured his first victory of his racing career in the open-make category and with that, his overall ranking moves up from 13th to ninth placing with 52 points. At the moment, Zulsyafiz tops the standings with 136 points, followed by Adib with 101 points while Mohd Hafiza Roda (Faito YSP Racing) is third with 100 points.

Feeling highly motivated with his first win, Fakhrusy wants to prove to his rivals that his victory was not merely a flesh in the pan by doing well in the coming leg at Sepang.

“I really work hard making sure that I am physically fit by jogging and besides that, motocross is also part of my training. I am really glad to see my effort and sacrifice that we put in is not in vain. Even though, last round was my first time handling the Honda machine in the Wira category but I have no problem adjusting with it and I must said I am quite comfortable with it,” said Fakhrusy who went through three weeks of training at the Hendriansyah Racing School, Indonesia in January this year.

He went on to share, “I want to continue to put on a strong performance and not shy to admit that I would like to set my feet on the podium again in both the remaining races. It will not be an easy race as we are racing at a totally different environment but I promise to give my best.”
