ARRC: AZLAN SECOND FASTEST IN ARRC OPENING PRACTICE
11 May 2012

Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman kicked off his PETRONAS Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) SuperSports 600cc campaign on a strong note coming in second fastest during the opening practice at the Sepang International Circuit today.

The MUSASHi Boon Siew Honda Racing rider timed his best lap of 1'06.548s behind SuperSports 600cc heavy-weight, Katsuaki Fujiwara who stood tall with 1'06.268s while teammate from Manual Tech BEET Kawasaki Racing, M.Fadli registered third fastest with 1'06.671s.

Although not the fastest rider today, the 28 year old Azlan remains positive of his chances. He reflected on his outing and said, "We ran the practice on used tyres because the team were more focused on searching for the perfect suspension settings and mapping. Towards the end of the day, everything was perfect but the tyres had already worn out and this prevented me from trying to surpass Fujiwara's lap time. Nonetheless, being able to keep close proximity with him is a good sign. I intend to drop my laptime tomorrow and hunt for a front row start in the qualifying."

Meanwhile, Mohd Amirul Ariff Musa seems to be on the roll to dominate the Underbone 115cc practice sessions today. The Pachie Yuzy Honda Racing rider clocked his best lap at 1'24.198s in the first session before shaving off 1.574s to wrap up the opening practices with 1'22.624s in his sixth lap.

Second fastest for the day was Mohd Iskandar Raduan (PETRONAS Syntium Moto Yamaha AHM) with 1'22.814s followed by Indonesian, Rey Ratukore (Nissin R9 KYT Federal Oil BRT) with 1'23.814s.

Pleased to commence his campaign on strong notes, Amirul commented, "This is my second year competing in the Underbone 115cc so coming in fastest today is a positive start. However, this is only the beginning. Most teams are still searching for the right setup so we are expecting the competition to get tough and the lap times drop further down tomorrow, especially among top runners, Iskandar and Ratukore who are less than a second away," he said.

As for the Asia Dream Cup (ADC), Malaysian, Sasitharen Sukuraman placed himself fifth fastest with 1'22.208s behind Japanese representatives, Hikori Ono, Hikari Okubo and Indonesian, Denny Triyugo with 1'20.543s, 1'21.416s and 1'22.004s respectively. Fourth was Joshua Hook Frederick from Australia with 1'22.097s.
