ARRC: AFFENDI FAVOURS ZHUHAI LAYOUT
1 August 2012

Malaysian Underbone 115cc rider, Mohd Affendi Rosli is hoping to turn his campaign around in the 2012 PETRONAS Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) as the contingent descends on the Zhuhai International Circuit in China for the third leg this weekend, his favourite track.

The Harian Metro Y-TEQ SCK Honda Racing rider faced mixed fortunes in the first two rounds when he started the season on a positive note by finishing fifth (Race 1) at the Sepang Circuit (Round 1) but since then has suffered a run of bad luck with a DNF in Race 2 at Sepang and a DNS in Race 1 in Indonesia (Round 2).

As a result, Affendi is now placed 12th in the Underbone 115cc overall standings with 13 points. Meanwhile Indonesian, Hadi Wijaya (Yamaha Yamalube KYT R9 Tunggal Jaya) leads with 86 points and Affendi's teammate, Norizman Ismail second, 62 points. Third comes in Rey Ratukore (Nissin R9 KYT Federal Oil BRT), 60 points.

Although unhappy with his troublesome start, Affendi remains optimistic for the upcoming race this weekend, certain the Zhuhai track will see his campaign turn around as he has a lot of fond memories racing on the 4.3 kilometre circuit.

"Out of all the race venues on the ARRC calendar, Zhuhai is my favourite. It is a neutral circuit and never had I missed the podium at this venue since my Underbone 115cc debut in 2007. I even sealed the 2009 Underbone 115cc title here," said the rider who hails from Sungai Buloh, Selangor.

For Affendi, Zhuhai fits his riding style perfectly and this gives him an added advantage against rivals, provided his Honda is fine-tuned perfectly. At the same time, he does not deny luck plays an important factor as well.

"Zhuhai is a very fast track. It has a smooth and even surface which makes riding here very fun and exciting. It suits me well because here a fast bike alone is not enough to guarantee a win. Instead, a rider needs to have a strong strategy which has always been one of my strengths," he added.

"At the moment, everything seems to be going well. We have a strong machine having learnt from our errors in Sepang and Sentul and my riding is at an optimum level. All I need is a little bit of luck to help me get on the podium."
